Week 8 : Fantasy Football

We are now rushing into Week 8 of the NFL season, almost halfway through the year and some teams are deep and consistent while others lack players that put on any numbers really. We'll pick apart who to start this week and who to avoid.

IN THE NEWS:
The drama this week surrounds the Cowboys, does that surprise you? It is not the team, but a player. Dez Bryant is becoming a household name in the NFL and he wants people to know it. He felt as if he was put in a different league under Calvin "Megatron" Johnsnon (DET). Bryant stated the following at an interview with ESPN:

"Truth be told, I don't compare myself to nobody," Bryant said Monday during an appearance on 103.3 FM ESPN in Dallas. "I think Calvin's the best at what he [does]. I think I'm the best at what I do."
"I believe I can do whatever he can do," Bryant said.

WEEK 7 AWARDS:

MVP: Andrew Luck (IND)
Andrew Luck and the Colts held their own against the Broncos and gave them their first loss of the season. He won AFC Offensive Player of the Week and also had a career high 29 ESPN Fantasy points.
Luck finished 21/38, 228 yards, 3 TD's and knocked on 29 yards rushing and 1 TD.

 Bust of the Week: Adrian Peterson (MIN)
Against the, then 0-6 Giants, AP could only rush 13 times for 28 yards and only caught 2 balls for 28 yards. For being the "best" running back in the NFL, a game like this is very unlike him.


Sleeper of the Week: Jordan Reed (WSH) & Jarrett Boykin (GB)
The Year of the Unknown Tight Ends continues, with Fred Davis on the trading block, Jordan Reed as emerged as a legit target for RGIII. Reed finished the game with 9 catches for 134 yards and 1 TD in a win against the Bears. Jarrett Boykin on the Packers filled in the vacant spot that Randall Cobb held before he got injured. Football fans everywhere was expecting a huge day from Jordy Nelson, but no, it came from Mr. Boykin who finished with 8 catches for 103 yards and 1 TD.

Week 8 Predictions:

Star of the Week: Jamal Charles (KC)
Charles, who is already a top RB, and matched up against the Cleveland Browns... That's a recipe for success. The Chiefs are rolling and against a weak Browns team, he is going to finish with over 150 yards.
Prediction: 150 yards, 2 TD's

Sleeper of the Week: Mike James (TB)
With Doug Martin out for a significant amount of time, it looks like Mike James will fill the void in the running back position. With Tampa Bay starting a new quarterback that is not too reliable, the Bucs will put the ball on the ground and rush. Don't expect huge numbers, but start-worthy.
Prediction: 75 yards, 1 TD

Bust of the Week: Jordan Cameron (CLE) .... (again)
Let's make this simple. Kansas City has not allowed a touchdown from any TE this year; not even over 50 yards to a TE. It would be different if it were Gronk or Graham because they have elite QB's but in Cleveland... It's not looking good.
Prediction: 4 catches, 30 yards, 0 TD

Start 'Em

  1. Harry Douglas (ATL) - Douglas now the #1 receiver in ATL, start him!
  2. Rueben Randle (NYG) - Expect a big passing game for Manning, Randle is on a TD streak!
  3. Eddie Lacy (GB) - With limited receivers, Lacy will get more carries.
  4. Rob Gronkowski (NE) - Gronk is back, and Brady is happy. That means production.
  5. Knowshon Moreno (DEN) -Moreno has emerged as a strong weapon in Denver.
Sit 'Em
  1. Buffalo RB's - With injuries lurking, it's smart to avoid both Spiller and Jackson
  2. Andre Ellington (ARI) - Not the backup we all expected.
  3. Alfred Morris (WSH) - With RGIII and the passing game emerging, avoid Morris, especially with Helu getting goal line carries.
  4. Jason Campbell (CLE) - Don't expect a huge game from a new starter, especially against the Chiefs.
  5. Joique Bell (DET) - With Bush healthy, Bell has become a non-factor.


Bold Prediction:
Michael Vick will pass for 350 yards, rush for 70 yards and have 4 total TD's in his return against the Giants.

Week 7 - Fantasy World

It is now week 7 in the NFL season, let's dive right into the awards and predictions so everyone can get their lineups set! Currently, NFLFantasyHub has 182 followers, I think we can get to 200 before kickoff!

WEEK 6 AWARDS:

MVP: Cam Newton (CAR)
Superman took flight on Sunday against the Vikings. Newton, who had 8 total TD's in the previous 4 games of the season, finished with 4 total TD's in a 35-10 route of the Vikings. Not to mention he threw with accuracy. He finished 20-26, 242 yards, 3 TD's and rushed for 30 yards and 1 TD.


 Bust of the Week: Calvin Johnson (DET)
Where has Megatron been the last couple of weeks? He has been non-existent. He sat out the week before and only had 3 catches for 25 yards, and ZERO TD's. That is unacceptable for an elite WR like himself. Of course we cannot sit Calvin, but he needs to pick it up not only for fantasy sake, but for the Lions.

Sleeper of the Week: Thad Lewis (BUF)
Who? Is that a boxer? No. Thad Lewis that starting QB for the Buffalo Bills while E.J. Manuel recovers from an injury. With a week Buffalo pass offense, no one thought that Mr. Lewis would have a game like he did. Lewis finished 19-32, 216 yards, 2 TD's and also had 17 yards rushing and 1 TD.

Week 7 predictions: 

Star of the Week: Philip Rivers (SD)
River's stock has dropped from being a great fantasy start to a "well he's better than Ponder" kind of start. Regardless, River still knows how to rack up the yards and TD's; and with the matchup against Jacksonville, that is what he's going to do.
Prediction: 375 passing yards, 4 TD's

Sleeper of the Week: Zac Stacy (STL)
Zac Stacy, in his two starts, is averaging 4.9 yard per carry, including 2.4 yard after contact, according to ESPN. With 78 and 79 yards rushing in his start is pretty solid for a St. Louis rookie back. I think he has a good chance to break out against the Panthers, but only in a deep league.
Prediction: 120 total yards, 2 TD

Bust of the Week: Matt Ryan (ATL)
With Roddy White, Julio Jones, and Steven Jackson out this week, Ryan has to look at Harry Douglas as his number 1 WR, who had two catches last week! Yes, it's a great opportunity to start Douglas in the WR spot but Ryan won't produce much with only Douglas and Gonzalez as targets.
Prediction: 200 yards, 1 TD

Bold Prediction:
Matt Forte will go OFF against the week Redskins. 200 total yards, 3 TD's

Week 6 - In the news

We are rolling into Week 6 of the NFL season and we are getting a pretty clear picture of who the stars and duds of the league, fantasy wise; but that can always change! Last week I announced my Quarterly Awards for the Fantasy season, if you missed out on that, take a look at my last blog post. This week, we will have the normal awards and predictions, but also some NFL news that is trending in the sports world. Shall we dive in?

IN THE NEWS:
In the beginning of the week it seemed likely that Patriots' Rob Gronkowski would make his season debut against the 5-0 Saints. Reports today are leaning more towards that Gronk needs one more week to be fully healthy. He has not yet been cleared to play.  We have all been waiting for the return on Gronk, especially Tom Brady.

Report from ESPN's Adam Schefter - “New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, recovering after a series of surgeries on his fractured forearm and ailing back, still has not been cleared to play by Dr. James Andrews, according to ESPN and media reports. Moreover, there was less optimism Friday that he will play Sunday against the New Orleans Saints than there was earlier in the week.”


On a sadder note, the Peterson family is mourning the death of their 2 year old son. The child was reported dead Friday, after a reported assault on the infant. Twitter activity over the event exploded instantly. Thoughts and prayers were sent/tweeted/posted all over the internet. The picture that everyone was posting, of him handing his son the football is NOT the son who passed away. Adrian Peterson Jr. is healthy and with his father. That does not take away from what happened to his younger son. Peterson plans on playing on Sunday. Everyone will be a Vikings fan on Sunday, RIP little man.

WEEK 5 AWARDS:

MVP: Tony Romo (DAL)
The shootout in Dallas was led by their ring leader, Tony Romo. In a close game against Denver, 51-48, Romo finished the game 25-36, a whopping 506 yards, 5 TD's and 1 INT. With these types of numbers, I still don't understand why Romo is the most scrutinized players in the NFL.


 Bust of the Week: Reggie Bush (DET)
After a stellar start of the season and seen as one of the front runners for Fantasy MVP, Bush has slowed down (yes he had an injury) but that did not take away any of his carries. Bush is averaging 15 carries per game and last week he had 13 carries for 44 yards, 0 TD's. A slow day for Bush, don't expect that do become a normal thing.

Sleeper of the Week: Justin Blackmon (JAC)
Although he is the star in Jacksonville, it was hard predicting how he would do after serving his 4 game suspension, especially with a struggling Jaguars team. After his performance it looks like he didn't miss a beat with racking in 5 catches for 136 yards and his 1st TD of the year.

Week 6 predictions: 

Star of the Week: Peyton Manning (DEN)
The best player in the NFL (thus far) against the worst team in the NFL. If Manning plays the entire game, expect huge numbers coming his way. Obviously the Broncos can't announce that he would only play the 1st half if Denver is winning by a lot, with that being said, we have to plan on him playing the whole game.
Prediction: 400 passing yards, 4 TD's

Sleeper of the Week: Marlon Brown (BAL)
Brown, who is only owned in 11% of ESPN leagues is matching up against a weak Green Bay passing defense. He was inactive last week against Miami, but before that he had 3 TD's in 4 games.
Prediction: 6 catches, 100 yards, 1 TD

Bust of the Week: Jordan Cameron (CLE)
The Detroit Lions have not given up a TD to a Tight End all year. Granted they have not matched up against a Top 5 TE, the Lions have shut down the middle of the field for TE's; Cameron also coming off his worst week of the year with only racking in 36 yards on 3 catches.
Prediction: 5 catches, 50 yards

Bold Prediction:
Adrian Peterson rushes for 200 yards and 2 TD's in the toughest most emotional game of his entire life.

Quarterly Report : NFL Fantasy Season

We are officially 1/4 of the way through the NFL season and getting into the first week of October! There are plenty of surprises thus far that has either made or broke our teams. For this blog post we will take a look at Quarterly Awards for the following:
*MVP
*The Underdog (Sleeper)
*Mr. Consistent
*Mr. Unreliable 

We will then dive into Week 5's predictions and select a few people that will shine and some that will dive. But before any of that, here are the TOP TEN PLAYS from the month of September!

Now for the Quarterly Awards thus far for the NFL Fantasy season:
MVP: Peyton Manning (DEN)
The stats say it all...
The Underdog (Sleeper) : Jordan Cameron
It is the Year of the Tight End and Cameron is someone that was not in discussion in the preseason when it came to Top TE's for the year, but his stats are eye-opening: 33 catches, 396 yards, 5 TD's.

  Mr. Consistent : Jimmy Graham (NO)
Yet another TE to make the list. Graham has had at least one TD and had over 100 yards receiving in each of the first 4 games this year. 27 catches, 458 yards, 6 TD's

 Mr. Unreliable : Ray Rice (BAL)
For a player that was projected in the Top 5 for ESPN Fantasy Drafts, this fella has not produce at all. Especially for being the "King" of PPR. 30 carries, 89 yards, 1 TD (Through 4 games)

Week 5 predictions:

Star of the Week: Peyton Manning (DEN)

Going up against a Dallas pass defense that has allowed 400+ yards in 2/4 games this year, Peyton is going to have a hay-day in Dallas

Prediction: 35-48, 385 yards, 4 TD's

Sleeper of the Week: Isaiah Pead (STL)

With Daryl Richardson benched in St. Louis and matching up against a poor Jacksonville team in general, Pead has to make a name for himself while he has a chance.

Prediction: 15 carries, 80 yards,  1 TD

Bust of the Week: Roddy White (ATL)

White was up for the Mr. Unreliable award, and it was very close only bringing in 6 ESPN Fantasy Points through the first 4 games. Don't expect that the change even against the Jets. Ryan has his targets and at this point in the season, White isn't one of his favorites.

Prediction: 3 catches, 30 yards

Bold Prediction: 
This will be the week that David Wilson (NYG)  breaks out. Over 100 yards rushing with 2 total TD's.
